Still for Mac · Support

Help, from a person.

Write to support@stillfocus.app. Tell us which version of Still you have, shown at the bottom of its Settings, and which macOS you are on. The most common questions are answered below.

Installing Still

Still needs macOS 15 or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

After you buy, checkout returns you to www.stillfocus.app/download and a disk image named Still-<version>.dmg downloads straight away. Open it, drag Still to your Applications folder, then eject the disk image and open Still from Applications. The first time, macOS may ask you to confirm that you want to open an app you downloaded. Still is signed and notarized with Apple, so a confirmation is all it should ask for.

Finding Still after it opens

Still has no Dock icon and no main window. Look at the right edge of your screen, about halfway down: a slim rail with the timer, a Sound icon, a Todos icon, and a Breathe icon is attached there. Click any of them to open the panel. A half-filled circle in the menu bar shows the time remaining; click it and choose Show Still if the rail is out of sight.

If the rail is on the wrong monitor, open the gear and choose the display under Settings → Display. Still keeps the rail within the screen it is on, and returns to your chosen display when that display reconnects.

Your data, and where it lives

Todos, settings, today’s session count, and your music library stay on your Mac, in Still’s folder at ~/Library/Containers/org.still.focus. Nothing syncs and nothing is uploaded; the privacy policy has the detail. Migration Assistant and Time Machine carry the folder to a new Mac along with everything else.

Todos save as they change, and a todo you are halfway through typing is still there after you close the panel or quit Still. Drag a todo to put it somewhere else in the list. ⌘Z undoes the last completion, deletion, or move back, and finished todos are kept by day under Completed, each with the time you finished it.

Notes were removed in Still 0.2.0. Notes saved by an earlier version are no longer shown, but they are not deleted: they stay in the same folder, untouched, and going back to Still 0.1.1 shows them again. Write to us if you would like that version.

Music

The fourteen bundled tracks and four soundscapes play offline and need nothing set up. Music you add is referenced where it is, not copied, so if you move or delete a file Still can no longer play it: remove it from the list and add it again from its new place. Bundled tracks repeat until you pause or skip; your own tracks advance when they finish.

Breathing sessions

The Breathe tab has three guided sessions: Calm down (5 minutes), Let go (2 minutes), and Settle in (3 minutes). The voice, the soft cues, and the music come with the app and play offline. To breathe without the voice, turn off Voice guide under the sessions; the cues, the music, and the moving disc carry on.

A session never starts, pauses, or resets your timer, and closing the panel leaves it running, with the rail’s Breathe icon showing each breath. Music you were playing fades out for the session and comes back afterwards. Disconnecting your headphones, putting your Mac to sleep, or locking the screen pauses a session.

Breathe gently; you don’t need big breaths. If you feel dizzy, tingly, short of breath, or more anxious, stop and breathe normally. Still’s breathing sessions aren’t medical treatment. Breathing safely, under the sessions, says more.

What Still does not do

Updates

Still does not update itself. The newest version is always the one this site gives you: check the release notes for what it is, then download again with your receipt and replace the copy in your Applications folder. Your todos, settings, and music library are kept.

The version you have is at the bottom of Still’s Settings, and Settings → Updates opens the release notes in your browser, where the newest version is at the top with what changed. To update, quit Still from its menu bar icon, go to www.stillfocus.app/download, enter the email address you bought with together with the order number on your Stripe receipt, open the disk image, and drag Still to Applications, choosing Replace when Finder asks. Then open Still again. Nothing needs setting up a second time: the rail returns to its place, and your todos, settings, and music are where you left them.

If an update goes wrong, quit Still, drag it from Applications to the Trash, and download it again from the same page. Your todos and settings are not inside the app and are untouched either way. If the newest version does not work for you, write to support@stillfocus.app and we will send you the previous one.

Removing Still

Quit Still, then drag it from Applications to the Trash. Still installs nothing else: no helper, no login item, nothing outside its own folder. Dragging it to the Trash removes the app and leaves your todos and settings in place, in case you come back.

To remove those too: in Finder choose Go → Go to Folder, enter ~/Library/Containers, and move the folder named Still to the Trash. In Terminal the same folder is named org.still.focus. Until you empty the Trash, Put Back restores it.

Purchases, receipts, and refunds

Still costs $5.00, once. The full terms are on the terms page; the short version:
